First Birthday Cake Smash Session | Los Angeles Baby Photographer

Handsome Baby Efren came to my studio for his first birthday cake smash session. His birthday party was Elmo themed, so we decided to invite Elmo to join in the festivities.  I absolutely love this type of session because it’s fun to watch how babies react when they see the cake. Babies usually either love the cake or hate it, but Baby Efren wasn’t too sure about it…. He was curious about the cake, which was specially made by his talented grandma, but he tried his best not to get messy, especially with his left hand. But eventually, he started to enjoy squishing his cake with his fingers! It was so adorable and fun to watch him and his family, who was cheering him on to smash the cake!  During the session, the family shared happy news with me. Baby Efren is going to be a BIG brother in July!! I am sure he will be a wonderful sweet brother! =)

Happy Birthday Baby Efren! You are one of the happiest babies I know!  Here is a storyboard that I created from our cake smash session and some of my favorite family portraits.

Sweet 6 Weeks Old Baby Girl | Los Angeles Professional Newborn Photographer

It was such a joy to photograph Abigail at 6 weeks old. But I have to admit that when her mom first contacted me and told me that her baby girl was already 6 weeks old, I was a bit nervous.  I typically photograph newborns within 2 weeks after birth to ensure that they are sleepy, squishy, and have that fresh “newborn curl”. Based on my past experiences with newborns and my own baby, who I photographed since she was 13 days old until 6 weeks old for her newborn portraits, I can tell that as babies get older, they are more alert and will be more of a challenge to pose them. Usually, the ‘older newborns’ have filled out and their tummies and thighs tend to get in the way of those tightly curled up poses that I typically do with newborns. Although I was worried  that Abigail would be wide awake,  I wanted to capture this very exciting and special time for her family.  She will never be this little. so I was preparing myself to work a little harder to pose and photograph her.  Although there were moments where she fought sleep, she ended up sleeping A LOT throughout the session (longer and deeper than some of the 2-week old newborns that I’ve photographed) and we got some great shots of different poses of her.  Abigail has proven that beautiful results can still be achieved with an ‘older newborn’. She is such an adorable baby with the most beautiful hair and amazing curly long lashes! It was an absolute pleasure to photograph her.  I also had a wonderful time getting to know Abigail’s sweet parents and grandma, who are totally in love with this little princess! Here are some of my favorites from the session.

If you’re interested in newborn photography, the best time to schedule an appointment is during your pregnancy.  We will tenatively set up a session date around your due date.   Then, as soon as your baby arrives, we will adjust and finalize your session date.    The best time for the newborn session is between 5-10 days after birth, preferably before the baby is 2 weeks old. However, if you happen to already deliver your baby,or if you missed this 2-week window of time, please contact us as soon as possible, so that we can try to squeeze you in for your session immediately.  It is never too late to have keepsake images of your new baby!

The Importance of Family Portraits Taken at the Newborn Session! | San Gabriel Valley Newborn Photography

My newest little niece, Taylor, arrived exactly 2 months after my daughter was born!   We are so happy that our daughter has a cousin around the same age, so that they can grow up together and hopefully be very close! We envision them playing and having fun together for a long time to come! We went to the hospital to see baby Taylor just a few hours after she was born and we were excited to see her again when she came for her newborn photo session at 11 days new.

My brother-in-law was so excited to take pictures with his wife and new daughter! I love it when mom and dad want to be included in the session.  In fact, I think it’s important to have your first family portraits taken at this time. My newborn sessions are designed to mainly focus on the newborn, however, parents (and siblings)  are encouraged to be involved in the session too! These treasured family photos usually will take place at the beginning of the session, so that the parents can relax during the remainder of the session while we focus on the baby alone.

Why is it important to have your first family portraits taken at the newborn session? We want our children to see our hearts filled with joy – to memorialize the happiness and excitement we felt when holding them when they were precious little newborns. We also want to give them the visual loving memory of us!  Finally, it’s the best way to show them how tiny they were in our arms. One of my favorite ways to capture the family portraits is to have the mom hold the baby while the dad embraces them both.  I also love capturing the tiny new life in daddy’s big, strong arms and hands. I truly believe that having your first family portraits taken is as important as having newborn portraits.  It is the best way to celebrate the start of a brand new chapter in your family!

As I mentioned in my previous blog post here, I really wanted to make an effort to have a lot of pictures taken with my daughter and I am happy that my sister-in-law felt the same way. As first time parents, we both felt very exhausted getting ready for our newborn sessions. We would rather sleep an extra 5 mins than putting make-up on and brushing our hair. But I am sure my sister-in-law was happy that she did, because they chose their family picture to be in the front of their announcement cards!  =)

Welcome to the world Taylor! You’re beautiful! And I had fun dressing you up with many different accessories! I look forward to capturing  you more in the near future!

Precious Newborn Baby Girl + the Family Dog = Joy Session | Pasadena Newborn and Pet Photography

I welcome ALL family members, including the family dogs, to the newborn sessions. I am a huge dog lover and I always ask my clients if any pets will join us when they book with me. I was happy when Mr. Hank, the bulldog, came to my studio with his little sister, Fallon, when she was a little over 2 weeks old. They were my first client after I returned back from maternity leave and I couldn’t be happier to meet them! While holding Fallon, I kept thinking how much my daughter, who was 3 months old at that time, has grown in just a few months and I wanted Fallon’s parents to remember how tiny she was. You may think you will always remember the little details of your tiny newborn, but unfortunately those memories fade and having newborn portraits to look back on is a wonderful keepsake.  From my own experience, it’s value is immeasurable! I had a wonderful time documenting the little one’s newness that I didn’t want to put my camera down. Isn’t she adorable?? After I captured Fallon’s individual images, I invited Mr. Hank to join us.  He was super sweet and friendly, but whenever I tried to capture him with Fallon in the wooden prop, he would get up and come towards me as if he wanted me to pet him, so capturing them together was such a challenge! If I don’t feel safe capturing newborns and pets together, especially when the pets won’t stay still, I will stop.  Instead, I will capture them separately and combine the two images. =) Yes, the third image below was created that way!   With newborns, their safety always comes first. While Fallon’s mom was feeding her, I was able to capture some additional images of Mr. Hank with his daddy! It was fun watching them interacting together.

Thanks to Fallon’s parents for trusting me to photograph their precious newborn baby girl and their fur baby! I had a wonderful time getting to know all of you!
