My newest little niece, Taylor, arrived exactly 2 months after my daughter was born! We are so happy that our daughter has a cousin around the same age, so that they can grow up together and hopefully be very close! We envision them playing and having fun together for a long time to come! We went to the hospital to see baby Taylor just a few hours after she was born and we were excited to see her again when she came for her newborn photo session at 11 days new.
My brother-in-law was so excited to take pictures with his wife and new daughter! I love it when mom and dad want to be included in the session. In fact, I think it’s important to have your first family portraits taken at this time. My newborn sessions are designed to mainly focus on the newborn, however, parents (and siblings) are encouraged to be involved in the session too! These treasured family photos usually will take place at the beginning of the session, so that the parents can relax during the remainder of the session while we focus on the baby alone.
Why is it important to have your first family portraits taken at the newborn session? We want our children to see our hearts filled with joy – to memorialize the happiness and excitement we felt when holding them when they were precious little newborns. We also want to give them the visual loving memory of us! Finally, it’s the best way to show them how tiny they were in our arms. One of my favorite ways to capture the family portraits is to have the mom hold the baby while the dad embraces them both. I also love capturing the tiny new life in daddy’s big, strong arms and hands. I truly believe that having your first family portraits taken is as important as having newborn portraits. It is the best way to celebrate the start of a brand new chapter in your family!
As I mentioned in my previous blog post here, I really wanted to make an effort to have a lot of pictures taken with my daughter and I am happy that my sister-in-law felt the same way. As first time parents, we both felt very exhausted getting ready for our newborn sessions. We would rather sleep an extra 5 mins than putting make-up on and brushing our hair. But I am sure my sister-in-law was happy that she did, because they chose their family picture to be in the front of their announcement cards! =)
Welcome to the world Taylor! You’re beautiful! And I had fun dressing you up with many different accessories! I look forward to capturing you more in the near future!
