{Sabrina – 100th Day Portrait Session} – Los Angeles Baby Photographer

Sweet Sabrina came in for her 100th day portrait session a few weeks ago.   In Korean culture, it is an important milestone and tradition to celebrate 100th day.  And today is the day!  She is having family and friends gathering at her house to celebrate this special day.

I had the pleasure of capturing Sabrina with her sister, Donna, at this adorable age!  They both knew how to look at the camera and pose for me!
It was fun spending some time with them, and I am so honored that the family chose me to document this important milestone in her life.

Happy 100th day, Sabrina!  It was truly a pleasure to meet you and your sister.  I hope you’re having a great time with your family and friends at your 100th Day Celebration!
Take a look at these adorable little girls!

{Maternity Session with a Family Dog} Pasadena Maternity and Pet Photographer

I recently had a great time at a maternity session that included their family dog (aka “the first son”)!  Rusty, a handsome Labrador Retriever, is expecting to have a younger sister very soon!  He is my dog (Charlie’s) best buddy, who is very friendly, smart, and well-behaved!  His parents trained him with a new command – “lap” – just for this session, so that we can capture these cute images of him resting his head on mommy’s lap!  Very impressive!  And so adorable!  Throughout the session, I kept wondering if Rusty could  hear the baby’s heartbeat.  Dogs have the ability to sense things and hear things that we can’t, right?  What do you think?

We had a session right outside of their beautiful new home, which is still in the progress of being renovated.   Wow! I hope they get to move in before the little one decides to come out!  I am looking forward to capturing Rusty again with his new little sister very soon!   I am sure he will be a fabulous BIG brother!

Here are some of my favorite images from the session!  Isn’t Rusty cute? I have always loved the wrinkles on his forehead! =)

Are you expecting?  Be sure to contact me ASAP to secure your maternity session date.   Don’t wait until the last minute!   Maternity sessions are best held during month 7~ 8 of pregnancy, so that you can show off your beautiful big belly.   If you have a significant other, other children, including pets, they are more than welcome to join in on the session too.  If you do want to include your family dog(s), make sure that they are taken for a good walk a little  (approximately an hour or less) before the session, so they release all their energy! This helps them to be calm during the session.

{Before and After Pregnancy Images} – | Los Angeles Maternity & Newborn Photographer

It was truly a pleasure capturing both maternity and newborn images of this wonderful family!  I especially loved creating the before and after pregnancy images, which we planned while Braylon’s mom was still pregnant.  Exactly one month after I had a maternity session with Braylon’s parents, they welcomed me into their home for a newborn session.  Braylon was just 7 days old.   As I arrived. his grandpa opened the  door and asked me if I was moving into their place, lol!  Whenever I travel to my client’s home for a newborn session, my car is packed full with equipment, such as my studio lights, backdrops with stands, blankets, bean bag and other props, that I wish I drove a truck!

As soon as I met this precious new life, I fell in love with his curly hair!  He was a very tall and strong baby, just like his daddy!  Newborns are usually flexible within 2 weeks and they curl up when they sleep.  But this wasn’t the case with Braylon!  His legs were so strong – I mean really STRONG and stiff that he wasn’t able to curl up!  As soon as I tried to pose him on his belly and bend his knees, he wasn’t very happy.  He started to cry and I knew right away that he was uncomfortable in that pose.  Even though both his mom and I really wanted to get this specific pose, I decided to follow Braylon’s lead and moved on to some other poses that he seemed to like better.

Throughout the session, Braylon was wide awake.  His mom wanted to have a few photos of Braylon hanging on a hammock and a branch (similar to the ones I have in my portfolio).  This was a real challenge!  Although his mom was supporting him with her hands (which I photoshopped) and spotting him from the side and there was a bean bag an inch below him, he still needed to be asleep to eliminate movement and be safe.  So we waited and waited and waited patiently until he finally fell back asleep to capture him – and our patience paid off  :)

Here are some of my favorite images that I captured.  I hope you enjoy them!

Thank you so much Cathy! I love the photos and though it was only 2-3 months ago, it seems my newborn is gone and now I have a boy. Braylon changes so much each day and had changed since our shoot. I wish he was still quiet lol. He coo’s all day!
Thanks for the memories that I have of my entire journey with my firstborn.
If it wasn’t for your much needed patience, skill, and your good work ethics….and you moving in for the day (lol) I wouldn’t have this beautiful album of my baby boy.

{Jonah’s Superhero First Birthday Party Celebration with Korean Dol at Maggiano’s Little Italy at The Grove} | Los Angeles Birthday Party Photographer

After months and months of planning for Jonah’s superhero-themed Korean first birthday party (aka “Dol” or “Dohl”), the big day finally arrived. Jonah’s Super Mom and Dad really used their super powers to throw one of the most creative and fun-packed birthday parties my husband and I have ever been to! We had such a magical time photographing Jonah’s big celebration at Maggiano’s Little Italy at The Grove! Everything was so beautifully planned and decorated that I couldn’t help but “ooh and aah” at all of the details! I also enjoyed observing the guests’ surprised reactions as they walked into the room. There were so many activities for all superheros – a caricature artist, photo booth (taken by my husband!), Korean traditional game (Doljabi), delicious food & dessert, etc. – that all the guests had a blast!

The effort that Jonah’s mom put in preparing for this big event was like planning a wedding, seriously! She went way above and beyond in preparing for this big celebration! I especially love all of her talented DIY projects that she put together! She created capes, masks, and custom superhero-themed favors for all 14 kids. Each cape was customized for each kid with their initials on the back! She also made 65 cape lollies and over 300 stars for all the garlands and Doljabi sticks!! Every detail was spectacular! To add to her creativity, I designed and created a front-page newspaper layout with an article that was written by Jonah’s mom, a Welcome Sign, and a Doljabi Board with the images that I captured from Jonah’s first year portrait session that we had prior to the party. My husband and I also made some superhero props that all the guests seemed to have fun with at the photo booth!

Here are some photos from the event!

I also love how they incorporated traditional Korean elements into the party. Baby Jonah was adorable in his Korean traditional outfit, hanbok, during Doljabi, which was the highlight of the party.  The following items were placed in front of Jonah and whatever he grabs is believed to predict his future talent or career path! Which of the following items do you think Jonah grabbed? Take a guess!

Stethoscope = Doctor
Gavel = Lawyer
Ball = Athlete
Book = Scholar
Paintbrush = Artist
Money = Finance/Accountant/Entrepreneur

To make the game more interesting for the guests, each guest was instructed to place one star in the jar of the item that they thought Jonah will choose. The guests kept the corresponding star for a raffle. Based on the item that Jonah picks, a raffle winner was picked from the jar labeled with Jonah’s selection.

Jonah ended up picking a book (scholar) and a stethoscope (doctor)! His parents must be happy about his bright future! :)  Jonah’s birthday party has definitely educated us about Korean first birthday traditions. We are very honored to be part of this important day in their family’s life and experience the festivities of a Korean Baby’s First Birthday, Dohl.  Happy Birthday Super Jonah! Your smile brings so much joy to your family and to all those around you! Thanks for inviting us to photograph such a momentous occasion!

{Superhero Baby Portrait Session} | Pasadena Baby Photographer

I have been waiting very UN-patiently to post these pictures of Superhero, Jonah, who is turning ONE!  Today is his birthday party and I just can’t wait to capture his BIG day! I can’t believe he’s already one!  I met Jonah when he was only 10 days old at his newborn session.  It’s amazing how fast a baby grows in just one year!  His mommy and I are friends from college.  Soon after I photographed Jonah’s newborn portraits, her family moved from Los Angeles to Washington, but thanks to Facebook, I enjoy watching him grow online!

Back in January, I was asked to document his first birthday party, and since then, we started to share so many ideas that came up in our minds and what we found online via Pinterest.  Yes, we were addicted to Pinterest!  One of my ideas was to take some portraits at a red phone booth, which I found near by my house and the next thing we knew, the family flew in all the way from Washington!  Yay!  Our session started as Jonah transforms into ‘Super Jonah’ at a phone booth. Isn’t he the CUTEST superhero ever?  We also took some photos with the superhero backdrop that I created just for him at my home studio.  I was very happy that I was able to capture some action photos!  It was so much fun doing this superhero theme session with Jonah prior to his birthday party.  His parents picked some images for his birthday party invites, as well as decorations for his party, and I can’t wait to share what we did with you!

I am so honored to capture Super Jonah at newborn and one year later.  I look forward to photographing his 1st birthday party today!  I know it’s gonna be FUN!  Stay tuned :)
