It was truly a pleasure capturing both maternity and newborn images of this wonderful family! I especially loved creating the before and after pregnancy images, which we planned while Braylon’s mom was still pregnant. Exactly one month after I had a maternity session with Braylon’s parents, they welcomed me into their home for a newborn session. Braylon was just 7 days old. As I arrived. his grandpa opened the door and asked me if I was moving into their place, lol! Whenever I travel to my client’s home for a newborn session, my car is packed full with equipment, such as my studio lights, backdrops with stands, blankets, bean bag and other props, that I wish I drove a truck!
As soon as I met this precious new life, I fell in love with his curly hair! He was a very tall and strong baby, just like his daddy! Newborns are usually flexible within 2 weeks and they curl up when they sleep. But this wasn’t the case with Braylon! His legs were so strong – I mean really STRONG and stiff that he wasn’t able to curl up! As soon as I tried to pose him on his belly and bend his knees, he wasn’t very happy. He started to cry and I knew right away that he was uncomfortable in that pose. Even though both his mom and I really wanted to get this specific pose, I decided to follow Braylon’s lead and moved on to some other poses that he seemed to like better.
Throughout the session, Braylon was wide awake. His mom wanted to have a few photos of Braylon hanging on a hammock and a branch (similar to the ones I have in my portfolio). This was a real challenge! Although his mom was supporting him with her hands (which I photoshopped) and spotting him from the side and there was a bean bag an inch below him, he still needed to be asleep to eliminate movement and be safe. So we waited and waited and waited patiently until he finally fell back asleep to capture him – and our patience paid off :)
Here are some of my favorite images that I captured. I hope you enjoy them!
