It was such a joy to photograph Abigail at 6 weeks old. But I have to admit that when her mom first contacted me and told me that her baby girl was already 6 weeks old, I was a bit nervous. I typically photograph newborns within 2 weeks after birth to ensure that they are sleepy, squishy, and have that fresh “newborn curl”. Based on my past experiences with newborns and my own baby, who I photographed since she was 13 days old until 6 weeks old for her newborn portraits, I can tell that as babies get older, they are more alert and will be more of a challenge to pose them. Usually, the ‘older newborns’ have filled out and their tummies and thighs tend to get in the way of those tightly curled up poses that I typically do with newborns. Although I was worried that Abigail would be wide awake, I wanted to capture this very exciting and special time for her family. She will never be this little. so I was preparing myself to work a little harder to pose and photograph her. Although there were moments where she fought sleep, she ended up sleeping A LOT throughout the session (longer and deeper than some of the 2-week old newborns that I’ve photographed) and we got some great shots of different poses of her. Abigail has proven that beautiful results can still be achieved with an ‘older newborn’. She is such an adorable baby with the most beautiful hair and amazing curly long lashes! It was an absolute pleasure to photograph her. I also had a wonderful time getting to know Abigail’s sweet parents and grandma, who are totally in love with this little princess! Here are some of my favorites from the session.
If you’re interested in newborn photography, the best time to schedule an appointment is during your pregnancy. We will tentatively set up a session date around your due date. Then, as soon as your baby arrives, we will adjust and finalize your session date. The best time for the newborn session is between 5-10 days after birth, preferably before the baby is 2 weeks old. However, if you happen to already deliver your baby, or if you missed this 2-week window of time, please contact us as soon as possible, so that we can try to squeeze you in for your session immediately. It is never too late to have keepsake images of your new baby!
